flute, fantasy, & philosophy

On the wings of story and the beautiful sound of the Native American flute, Tsagoi leads you through a medley of stories and experiences that awaken within you ancient memories, of a time you lived close to the earth and understood the web of life and the sense of belonging resulting from knowing your place in it.

The intimacy in nature that the old ones knew is still possible for you. Touch the earth and it will touch you. Take the challenge. Come out of the electronic air-conditioned womb that you live in and discover for yourself that virtual is a poor second to reality. Give nature equal time. Once a person experiences an intimate moment with nature, a seed is planted and they will always hear the Earth Mother’s call. The old ones knew that the farther we get from the earth the less respect there is for life. The farther we get from nature the greater the emptiness within us.

ancient mind, modern world

To understand the mind of those troublesome A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder) children, it is necessary to go back to the primitive origins of their remarkable mind. Journey with Tsagoi as the story of an Indian scout unfolds revealing the parallels with A.D.D. and the wisdom of the old ones that allowed them to motivate and develop these self-determined internally referenced minds. Story and metaphor are the triggers that are able to set learning processes in motion.

This program is beneficial to storytellers, teachers, therapist, or anyone who finds himself or herself confronted by A.D.D. Insights gleaned from “Ancient Mind Modern World” may be especially helpful to those who are A.D.D.

welcome home, lieutenant

The telephone ring startled me. It had the intensity of a scream. I waited till the third ring to answer. A feeling of foreboding flooded over me as I picked up the phone. A hysterical voice began screaming in my ear, “You have to come over here now! He called her the enemy, he called her the enemy don’t you understand.” I was shocked speechless when I finally recognized the voice…

Thus begins the heart-rending story of “Welcome Home Lieutenant”. A two tour Ranger Lt. who faced front line combat and was forced to make decisions and take actions that tore at his very soul. However, his greatest battle was ahead. He had to come home.

Like the Lt. who twenty some odd years later still carried the pain, there are many veterans that have only scabbed over and never healed. A deeper understanding and respect for those who have fought and sacrificed for you and their country will be gained from hearing “Welcome Home Lieutenant” and by participating in the discussion that follows.

redmen, remembered

Out of the blackness came the familiar hissing of water being poured over hot stones. I could see the red glow of the stones dim slightly and knew the steam would reach me quickly. I heard a prayer being offered in Cherokee and the sacred sweat lodge ceremony had begun.

I did not know it at the time but it would be the last sweat lodge I would share with the Redmen of Good Medicine. I had the honor of sponsoring the Redmen for three years in the Mansfield correctional facility. Their story is one that must be told. The respect and intercultural harmony that existed in this prison could not be found anywhere else. Disrespect was not tolerated from guards or inmates. A visiting police officer said that if anyone had told him he would be as comfortable and at ease in a prison he would have laughed in his or her face. An administrative squabble ended the most successful correctional program I have known or heard of. The Redmen were taken back to Oklahoma and scattered among various prisons to break the bonds they had formed at Mansfield.

Hear the story and know that containment is not the answer. Rehabilitation is possible and can slow the revolving door of recidivism. A discussion follows.
